"If you can see the water you should be drinking…Rosé !’’
For the month of Rosé Rising, Head Sommelier Georgina has put together a whole list dedicated to the tutu-toned drink. Forget what you thought you knew about Rosé, with a whole venue festival in allegiance to the drink, Georgina's also put together a few notes to help you really understand why pink is the hottest colour of the season. Head into Bea restaurant to see the full list of wines that Georgina's talking about below.
…a lighter shade of pale…
Short maceration periods of just a few hours on red grape skins encourage a softer, lighter hue. Think of fresh strawberry and raspberry with crisp citrus, maybe pink grapefruit and more floral tones.
...lay a little more skin on…
As time on skins increases there is more defined tannin, palate texture and complexity to the wine. This selection of Rosé styles are traditionally more engaging with a variety of food flavours and are very much at home with Spring and Summer produce. Think fresh seasonal tomatoes and garden herbs, grilled meats and fishes.
…seriously rare & rosé…
Iconic wines of tiny production, seriously good old-vine fruit with serious aging potential…this is the exception not the rule in the global Rosé market. These wines are exceptional in their own right and represent structure, historical and regional interest and abundant layers of flavour, power and intrigue. Brilliantly paired to Bea’s Roast duck and adventure/travel conversations!
…when it’s so pink it’s actually orange…
Less is more when it comes to ‘orange’ wines, wine without crutches, determined to be itself. The tannins remain intact as the wine is fermented on skins. Fermentation is often partially or wholly undertaken in large clay egg-shaped vessels called Amphorae designed to slowly oxygenate the wine…to develop characters of nuts & dried fruits. Next to no preservatives.
