About Rising Sun Workshop

In 2014 Rising Sun Workshop opened Sydney’s first and only communal motorbike workshop and ramen bar. Housed in a century-old Newtown warehouse, the award-winning restaurant has become known for its handcrafted noodles and riffs on izakaya classics. The bike workshop works via memberships and bookings, and the rates are affordable. Think about it like this: every bowl of noodles you eat is helping someone else access the workspace. Come hungry.


Rising Sun’s signature styles include The Light (a delicate chicken-based broth spiked with three-fish dashi), The Darkness (a heavier soup made with chicken parts, roasted pork bones, smoked hocks and shiitake mushrooms) and the The Monk (a spicy miso vegetarian number with a shiitake- and kelp-based broth). Depending on your choice, expect toppings ranging from marinated eggs to miso pumpkin and thick slices of roasted, free-range pork belly.

The Light

Broth: Chicken & three fish dashi

Shio: Smoked salt, ginger, apple, garlic & onion

Toppings: Roast free range pork belly, menma, kosho cabbage, pickled shiitake, soy egg, green onion & nori

 

The Darkness

Broth: Roast pork bones & chicken

Shoyu: Soy sauce, mirin & sake

Toppings: Roast free range pork belly, kikurage, menma, pickled shiitake, onsen egg, green onion, black onion & nori

 

The Monk

Broth: Shiitake & konbu dashi

Miso: Chillies, peppers, ginger, roast garlic & onion

Toppings: Kosho cabbage, miso pumpkin, kikurage, menma, pickled shiitake, soy egg, green onion & nori
